Use the desktop app
The desktop build is the same editor as the web one, with native access. It runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Available from the dashboard once you're signed in.
What you get over the web
- Direct file-system reads and writes. No save dialog when you Ctrl-S.
- A native Open dialog for .tmx, .tmj, .json, and .ldtk files straight off your disk.
- Built-in Git: commit, push, and pull your map files to GitHub or GitLab without leaving the editor.
- LAN hosting and the MCP server for AI agents.
- Local plugin loading from a folder on your machine.
Device binding
The desktop app needs a signed-in account, and it binds to that account on a single device on the free tier. The first time you launch and sign in, the app mints a stable device ID and registers it with the server. Try to launch on a second machine and you get a clear error: unlink the first device from the dashboard, or upgrade.
Paid plans raise the device cap. You can list and unlink devices any time from Dashboard → Devices.
Updates
The desktop app auto-updates. When a new release lands it downloads in the background and applies on next launch. You can see the running version in the About panel.
